Q. 1 – How do I get started?
See the WeGolf quick guide to get going here.
Q. 2 – Where can I get help?
A. – You have 3 options:
Q. 3 – I'm unable to download courses or players
A. - This is due to the default WAP settings in your phone.
See the example shown below for a Nokia model phone.
This is different for every phone and carrier and it may be necessary to call either your phone manufacturer's or carrier's help line:
Nokia Help: 1300 366 733
Sony Ericsson: 1300 650 050
If you are with Telstra, it may be necessary to download a complete set of data settings for your phone by either calling them or downloading them from here:

Q. 4 – What is the difference between Public and Private Courses on the web?
A. – Public courses are available for all users to download. Private courses are courses that you have entered or modified with additional points of interest.
Q. 5 – Can I enter my own courses?
A. – Yes, there are 2 ways.
Q. 6 – What phones can be used with WeGolf?
A. – Any phone that runs Java can use the basic features of WeGolf. These include the scorecard, statistics, live score and more. To use all the features of WeGolf, it depends on what APIs your phone supports. APIs are built into your phone and are required to use GPS, SMS, web browsing, email and your camera. Almost all phones using the Symbian operating system which includes major brands such as Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Samsung have these. Unfortunately, phones using the Microsoft platform such as HTC and HP don’t. These phones have very limited Java support and cannot use all the features that are built into the WeGolf application. This is also true for the iPhone but Apple has recently said that they will be supporting this in a future release.

Q. 7 – What phones can be used with a Bluetooth GPS?
A. – The phone must support the standard JSR-82 API. Most phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung come with this support. A limited listing includes these manufacturer’s phone models:
6230, 6600, 6620, 6260, 6270, 6280, 6630, 6670, 6680, 6681, 7610, N70, N90, N91, N95 N96
V600, D750, K600, K608, K750i, K800, W550, W600, W800i, W900, W910i, P900, P910, P990, W760i
Q. 8 – What phones can be used with a built in GPS?
A. – The phone must support the standard JSR-179. Some examples are:
N95, N95 8GB, N96, E90, N82, N85, N79, N810, 6110 Navigator, 6220 Classic, E71, N78, E66, 5800
W760i, C702, C905, G705
All models with Java / Symbian operating system
Note HTC/Qtek does not support use of GPS from Java programs like WeGolf.
Q. 9 – My phone is not listed?
A. – The list of phones that are compatible with all the features offered by WeGolf is growing daily. WeGolf offers a free trial to ensure that your phone is compatible. WeGolf is working hard on making phones by other manufacturers compatible with the WeGolf application. We will update this information on the website as they become available. If you need an immediate answer send an email to: support@wegolf.com.au
Q. 10 – Does WeGolf operate on my iPhone?
A. – Yes it does! NOTE: you can only get the iPhone version through the Apple App Store at a special price for a limited time. At present, there is no Free Trial for WeGolf on the iPhone. There is a link on the Free Trial page in the left hand pane which will provide iPhone users with more information and take iPhone users directly to the WeGolf iPhone App Store page
Q. 11 – How expensive is a GPS mobile phone?
A. – A phone with in-built GPS can be purchased FREE from any teleco on one of their low cost plans. You can trade up your existing phone to get a GPS phone immediately even if you still owe. The cost of GPS phones is dropping dramatically as a law passed at the end of 2005 in the USA has mandated that any phone used to call any emergency number must be determined to within 50 metres. All cell phone manufacturers only have a limited time to comply. The side benefits are that ALL cell phones will shortly come with GPS just as they now come with a camera.
Q. 12 – How does the price of owning a GPS phone with WeGolf compare to a 3rd party rangefinder?
A. – Its an unfair comparison as you already have a phone that you don’t leave home without it. Why carry another device especially given the fact that they typically cost $350 - $600 or more?
Q. 13 – Can I use a GPS receiver with my bluetooth phone and use WeGolf?
A. – Yes! The cost of purchasing one of these devices and pairing it with your bluetooth phone will enable you to use all the feature of WeGolf. Leave the device in your golf bag and activate it when you play your round. The cost of a bluetooth GPS receiver ranges from $20 to less than $100. Factor in the cost of WeGolf and you still come out hundreds of dollars cheaper with far more features (see the WeGolf comparison chart).
Q. 14 – Forgot your web password.
A. – This is the last four digits of your phone number. To display it on your phone:
Q. 15 – I have downloaded WeGolf but can’t find it on my phone
A. – After downloading WeGolf, you will normally be asked where to store it. If not, most phones stores WeGolf in the Programs / Application folder while on some Sony Ericsson phones, it is stored in Games.
Q. 16 – I have a new phone do I have to buy a new version of WeGolf?
A. – No, as long as your subscription is valid you can download WeGolf at any time. We recommend you follow our news for upgrades, merchandise offers and more.
If you have gotten a new phone number contact us by email, since your subscription is tied to your international mobile number.
For installation and upgrade read more here.
Q. 17 – I have a trial version, how do I pay and make it a permanent version?
A. –After your trial period of 2 weeks with unlimited usage rounds ends, WeGolf will cease to function and you will not be able to download another Free Trial. You must now purchase a copy of WeGolf. To purchase WeGolf, simply login to your WeGolf member home page and you will be taken through the payment process. Once this is complete, your account will be instantly activated. You can also purchase WeGolf by clicking this link, http://www.wegolf.com.au/pricingordering.html.
Tip: Shortcut to the WeGolf member's login page – www.weoem.net/portal
If you have purchased a retail CD:
Q. 18 – Will using WeGolf increase my phone bill?
A. – The short answer is no! WeGolf can operate in one of two modes. If you do not want any data charge simply turn off live scoring and do not publish your data while on the course. Also, make sure that you turn off assisted GPS which is built into your phone. This is suppose to provide more accurate positioning but, it incurs a data charge. WeGolf does not recommend using it.
Q. 19 – How accurate is the WeGolf caddie compared to a dedicated device?
A. – WeGolf wants you to know the straight facts:
On the same course, they will all be the same in terms of accuracy. GPS is GPS! The difference is cost and convenience. You already carry the only GPS device you need. Why pay $400 or more for a dedicated device with less functionality?
Q. 20 – I heard that using Google Earth maps are not accurate.
A. – Google maps are so good for most courses that the accuracy is within 1 metre. In the case where a Google map cannot be used, WeGolf or associates personally map the course. The ability to map a course is built into WeGolf. It is easy and you can do it yourself.
Q. 21 – How many points of interest (POIs) can I mark on a hole?
A. – You can mark as many POI as you need. In fact, WeGolf is the only golf caddie that allows you to map more than 3 POIs on the green. This is critical for large double greens when you need to get it close to the pin. You may need to map a left and a right half to the green. You may need to map a ridge on the green and not just the middle. With WeGolf, the choice is yours!
Q. 22 - How do I map my own course?
A. – WeGolf makes mapping your own course even easier by giving you two ways to do.
From your PC:
Simply follow the detail instructions in this link, How to map GPS Coordinates on a Course
From your mobile:
1. From the WeGolf Main Menu --> Select Courses
2. You can choose an existing course to create new POIs or map a new course by selecting New and filling in a few simple questions about the course either way continue to follow the instruction
3. Open an existing Course or your newly created Course
4. Select GPS Coordinates --> Hole number --> Select New
You will have options to choose pre-named course coordinates for a POI, the location for the POI, its location relative to the fairway and the option to enter a description for the POI.
5. Activate Enable GPS from the Options button look at LAT/LONG and let it settle for a few sec, then SAVE
Repeat the process for any POI you want to map on the hole.
A.- If you record what club you are using WeGolf will automatically plot your positions and strokes on satellite images from Google.
TIP: Setup your club distances in Tools → My Golfbag
Start WeGolf on your phone. (Note: If you have a phone with built in GPS, select INTERNAL GPS from the GPS menu before proceeding)
When you are at the point where you want to hit the next shot:
Select: Options → Stroke Distance → Club you use to hit
Your start position will be recorded, and have a grey bottom line displaying the club selection, and the distance increase as you move.
When you are ready to hit your next shot repeat the process:
Select: Options → Stroke Distance → Club for next shot
WeGolf records the END position of your first stroke, and starts measuring your next shot. Repeat the process until you are on the green, or decide to end plotting. Ending is done by:
Options → Stroke Distance → Stop
TIP: Measuring the distance is also helpful when looking for your ball. Start the shot tracking and you will be able to see the distance you walk in the display. If you know that you hit on your driver an average of 240 meters, walk 240 meters in the direction you hit and you are likely to find your ball quicker.

25. How can I connect my BlackBerry from behind a corporate firewall?
A: - Try to reset the default firewall prompts in Application permission's
Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications -> WeGolf -> Edit default Permission's -> Reset all Firewall Prompts
WeGolf is working closely with BlackBerry Australia in an effort to resolve these issues. It may be necessary to also open a port in the firewall for your BlackBerry to use.
WeGolf uses port 30080.
